SSA PROMISES UNFLINCHING SUPPORT
FOR ITF DG
The
National body of the Senior Staff Association of Utilities, Statutory
Corporations and Government Companies (SSAUCGOC) has promised to give its
unflinching support to the management of the ITF under the leadership of Prof. Longmas Sambo Wapmuk.
National
Secretary General of the Association, Comrade C. O. Nwagbara, who was
speaking during a courtesy call recently at the Fund’s Headquarters said the
era of banging of tables have given way for what he termed ‘scientific unionism’. Congratulating the DG
on his appointment, Nwagbara expressed hope that the
ITF DG would work to sustain the good relationship that had existed between SSA
and the ITF, noting that cooperation was reciprocal and not a one-way traffic.
Commenting
on the on going reforms in the Fund, Comrade Nwagbara
stated that the recent retrenchment exercise that took place in ITF recently
was not restricted to the Fund but part of the on going Federal Government
reforms, and therefore advised the SSA ITF Branch to accept the change with
maturity. He advised the ITF management not to be unduly perturbed by petitions
if the exercise was in strict conformity with the given guidelines but
cautioned that there may be a need for a review of the exercise, if there was
proof that the exercise was done outside the stipulated guidelines,
particularly if grievances as a result of such proof were channeled
appropriately through any of the two in house unions.
In his
response, the ITF DG commended the SSA ITF for the maximum cooperation he has
received from them since his coming on board.
He said that the ITF management has involved the unions in the
management of the affairs of the organization and prays that conflict will be
avoided as much as possible. The DG said
that although the ITF was constrained to carry out the monetization exercise,
which resulted in retrenchment, he averred that the Unions were carried along
in the exercise.
