ITF DG TASKS JOURNALIST ON BALANCED REPORTING

The Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund Professor Longmas Sambo Wapmuk has advised journalist to shun sensationalism and speculation, and adhere to the profession’s core principles of balance, fairness and objectivity.

Wapmuk, who stated this during his welcome address at a one-day sensitization workshop organized for members of Commerce and Industry correspondents Association (CICAN) in Jos recently blamed the denial of access to members of the press to appropriate officers and assured that it will not be the case in the ITF.

“I am aware that tendency to stipulate arises where journalist are denied access to the appropriate officers. In the ITF, our offices are wide open, and we are willing to offer clarifications whenever demanded of us by the media” he said.

The Director-General who was represented by Director of Finance and Accounts Department, Mrs. Fatima Usman explained the workshop was part of series of rebranding efforts designed to reverse the Fund’s low awareness profile and also impact on the way it performed its duties.

Commending journalists for attending the workshop despite competing assignments, he stated that their action suggested the desire of the media to strengthen the synergy that exists between them.

He averred that such synergy has largely been responsible for the attainment of key mandates of ensuring consciousness among Nigerians.

The Director-General assured of the Fund’s continued support of the media as individual or as a group.
