ITF ESTABLISHES NMFT CENTRE

The Industrial Training Fund has recorded yet another marked achievement in its determination to meet the skilled manpower needs of the country by its recent establishment of the National Metal Fabrication Training (NMFT) Centre in Lagos.

This success was achieved through its Industrial Skills Training Centre, Ikeja with the assistance of International Financial Corporation (IFC) Private Enterprise Partnership (PEP) Programme for Africa.

In a statement signed by the Head of Centre, Alh H. S. Dambatta, the ITF and IFC signed a MOU in 2008 which yielded the renovation and upgrading of three training rooms, two mechanical workshops and the upgrading of welding workshops.

The statement added that the welding workshop has state of the art equipment comparable to those of the industrialised nations of the world.

The centre, the statement also stated, was established to facilitate the implementation of enhancing the Fabrication Capabilities in the Nigerian Oil and Gas (EFCN) projects, and the training of metal fabrication personnel; thereby increasing the local content in this sector of the economy.

National Metal Fabrication Training Centre, according to Alhaji Dambatta is the first of its kind in Nigeria and will train Nigerians in both maintenance and production welding.
