GOVERNOR JANG SEEKS CLOSER TIES WITH ITF

The Governor of Plateau State, Da Jonah Jang has sought closer ties with Industrial Training Fund (ITF) towards the realisation of the State’s 10-point Agenda of repositioning Plateau State.

 

Da Jonah David Jang who made this appeal when he received the Director General and other members of ITF management specifically requested ITF’s intervention in the areas of manpower capacity building, wealth creation and education. Stressing the need for a closer working relationship between the Plateau State Government and the ITF, the Governor advised the ITF Jos Area Office to commence discussions with the Ministry for Trade and Industry and other relevant Ministries in order to work out areas of partnership with the State.

 

Appreciating the Fund’s remarkable achievements in its 36 year history, he lamented that little was known about the Fund and advised the ITF Management to redouble its efforts at creating awareness for the Fund. Da Jonah Jang commended the Federal Government for appointing a Plateau State indigene as the Director General of the ITF, noting that it was the first time in the Fund’s history.

 

Earlier in his speech, the Director General Professor Longmas Sambo Wapmuk expressed the willingness of ITF to collaborate with Plateau State Government in the training of the State’s workforce. Wapmuk said that the Fund has been identified as one of the key catalysts for the realization of President Umar Yar-Adua’s seven point agenda aimed at making Nigeria one of the biggest economies by the year 2020.

 

The DG, who identified the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) and enhanced skills training as critical areas that can turn the fortunes of the national economy and place the country on the path of economic growth, said the Fund, was investing all its energies in these areas. Averring that the ITF had capable Human Resources experts in all fields, he expressed the readiness of the ITF with the State in providing the training requirement for the State Government’s 10-point Agenda.
