RETREAT CALLS FOR COLLECTIVE EFFORTS

 

The Industrial Training Fund has recently organized the first ever Joint Council and Management Retreat held at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies Kuru, to deliberate and find a workable solution in realizing the Fund’s mandate.

 

The ITF Governing Council has reaffirmed its desire to adopt a bottom top approach in reviewing the Fund’s operational process.

 

The Council also enquired if the ITF was moving forward towards attaining its objectives by reviewing the past, present and appraising the future. They identified Human Resource as the most important factor of production and this constitutes the focus of ITF.

 

The Chairman of the Governing Council, Alh. Bode Oyedele noted that there is urgent need to make appropriate choices in order to make ITF relevant in both the economy and the nation. He stressed the need of identifying hindrances that are affecting Human Capital Development in the nation.

 

In his opening remark, the Director General of the Industrial Training Fund, Associate Professor Longmas Sambo Wapmuk, OON, represented by the Director of Finance and Accounts, Mrs. Fatima Usman briefed the participants on the new management initiative on the 9 year strategic plan which encapsulates a paradigm shift from managerial skills training to technical vocational skills acquisition and the rebranding programme aimed at revitalizing staff attitude to work as well as enhancing corporate visibility.

 

This is in addition to the research carried out by the fund in both public and private sectors with a view to determining the level of skills requirement in the nation’s industry.

 

He further reiterated that after 38 years of experience, the Fund has succeeded in making concerted efforts geared towards providing training programmes and facilities to improve the quality of the Nation’s Human Resource.

 

He however, challenged all internal stakeholders to give their best in terms of cooperation, noting that the Fund has taken this course of action in realization of the fact that the development of indigenous manpower will serve as the propelling force for national development.
