ITF BOSS COUNSELS JOURNALITS ON STRESS MANAGEMENT

The Director General of the Industrial Training Fund, Prof. Longmas Wapmuk, has advised editors and gatekeepers in the media industry to create awareness on stress.

He made the appeal at the opening ceremony of a two-day workshop for editors on stress management in Lagos recently. According to him, editors have a responsibility to educate the public on the need to manage stress and create a stress-free environment.

He said, “As journalists, there is need for you to help create awareness on the management of stress and also create a stress free environment for yourself. This workshop has been organized to educate you on the scientific ways through which you can work without going through stress. It has been put together to also help you identify stress.”

He noted that many Nigerians had died because of stress adding, however, that “We only talk about HIV and other diseases. Many people do not know that stress could kill and has in fact killed a lot of people”.

He said that stress was a silent killer. He added, “We want to urge Journalists to help use the media to popularize stress management. We have found out that stress is not limited to the rich. The middle class and the poor are also exposed to stress on a daily basis.”

He said the ITF would ensure that it maintained a robust relationship with the media. “ITF will continue to ensure standard and quality in the training of the workforce in Nigeria. We will also ensure that we maintain a robust relationship with the media so that we could work together to make Nigeria a better place.”  He stated.
